Hi! This is Hanna, instructor at KEC foreign language institute. In Japan everyone sends new year cards right, and they are delivered on January 1^st. But in Western countries we don’t send New Year cards, we only send Christmas cards which include a new year message as well. The cards can arrive any time in December, and people usually display them in their homes.

So lets look at some Christmas card greeting phrases!

1.  Simple expressions

・Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

But recently some people don’t write Christmas, they write “Season’s Greetings” or “Happy Holidays” to include people who aren’t Christians.

 ・Greetings of the Season and Best Wishes for the New Year.

2.  Something a bit more fancy: 

・Hoping you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I wish you the very best for continued success.

Companies also send cards to their customers and clients. For example:

・Hoping you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We wish your company the best for continued success.

・So the Christmas card format looks like this:

Best Regards/From,,

では、クリスマスカードの挨拶フレーズを見ましょう！

1.  シンプルな表現：

・メリークリスマス。そしてよいお年を!

しかし、最近では、「クリスマス」を書かなくて、キリスト教徒でない人々を含むために「時候のご挨拶を申し上げます」または「幸せな休日を」と書き添えることをおすすめします。

・季節のご挨拶と、新年のご多幸をお祈り申し上げます。

2. もう少し創造的なメッセージ
